Jamal’s Kolkata Mohammedan off to winning start

Bangladesh football team captain Jamal Bhuiyan got off to a winning start in his historic participation in the I-League as Kolkata Mohammedan beat Sudeva Moonlight FC 1-0 at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata Saturday.

Jamal, the first ever Bangladeshi to play in the I-League, and former Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra striker, Nigerian Rafael Odoyin were among three foreign players in the starting XI.

The 30-year old Jamal recovered from the novel coronavirus recently and got a few training sessions to acclimatize with the Indian conditions.

The Saif Sporting Club captain played till the 87th minute and was his usual customary self, taking the set pieces and helping out the side in both attack and defence.

Midfielder Faisal Ali netted the all-important goal in the 57th minute and Kolkata Mohammedan will now turn their attention to the next game against Churchill Brothers Thursday.
