Financially struggling Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra’s Japanese captain Yusuke Kato and manager Ariful Islam have been seeking donations to help the club survive the 2020-21 football season.
At the beginning of the month, the team management revealed their hapless financial situation, only three weeks before the season kicks off through the Federation Cup.
Kato, who rejoined the former teammates after spending a season at Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited, posted a facebook status in Japanese language alongside video message to attract the sponsors and donors in their bid to manage the finances of the top-flight side.
The Japanese midfielder explained about the club and translated the word ‘Muktijoddha’ (Freedom Fighter) before discussing about Bangladesh’s war for independence in 1971.
He also learned about Swadhin Bangla Football Team that played exhibition matches across India in 1971 to raise and donate money for the freedom fighters’ meals.
“The team manager is desperately running around to gather sponsors, thinking that this history and loving team should not be crushed,” said Kato’s statement.
Muktijoddha formed comparatively better team than Arambagh, whose squad looked one of the weakest among the 13 clubs

“I want to do something what I can do as a team captain. With that in mind, we are looking for team owners and sponsors. The team needs $500,000 to survive and only $100,000 is in sight. Would you please cooperate?” asked the Japanese.
Muktijoddha stopped preparation camp after the announcement of financial misery.
It resumed training five days ago.
Ariful said Kato is doing this due to his love for the club and after seeing his teammates getting distracted from the practice sessions.
The team manager said, “We are trying our best to get sponsors. I hope somebody will stretch helping hands. The minister and everybody are trying. We are asking for donations. Hopefully, we will find a way to rescue the team.”
