Amer named team manager for Nepal, Qatar games

Amer Khan, former footballer and director of premier league outfit Brothers Union, became the new manager of the Bangladesh football team until at least the World Cup and Asian Cup joint qualifying game against Qatar next month.

The announcement was made on the eve of Bangladesh’s first Fifa friendly against Nepal Friday where Amer is unlikely to be present on the dugout due to Covid-19 protocols at the match venue.

“Heard the news in the evening but can’t join the team for the first game. There are some procedures for Covid-19 as I was not with the team. I don’t think I’ll be there [Friday] but definitely for the second game on the 17th (Tuesday),” said Amer, who replaced previous manager Satyajit Das Rupu.

Uttar Baridhara Club’s Sumon Reza and Police FC’s Mathew S Bablu were called up to the final squad of the Bangladesh...

Amer made his debut as an BFF executive member after October 3’s Elective Congress. 

He has been guiding Brothers as manager since his retirement in 2002. 

As a midfielder, he played for the same club as well as the national team in the preceding decade.
