Bangladesh football has lost another member of its most glorious past, as Lutfor Rahman, a player of Swadhin Bangla Football Team, passed away on Monday.
Lutfor died at his Jessore resident at around 9 am. He was suffering from brain stroke for a long time.
He was 69.
In 1971, Lutfor joined with Swadhin Bangla Football Team at Kolkata and played many matches in various parts of India for the side to raise the awareness and financial support for the liberation fighters of Bangladesh. He was also the general secretary of the Bangladesh Krira Somity that was formed at Mujibnagar during the war.
He was struck by a brain stroke in 2018 and the bedridden former footballer got some support from government as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasan gave his wife Majeda Rahman a cheque of five lac taka and savings certificate equivalent of 25 lac taka.
Lutfor, who was born in 1951, was good at football and hockey. He was a regular member of Jessore District team from 1965 to 1975. He joined Dhaka’s Wari Club back in 1969 and captained the side in 1970.
