All the sporting activities of Bangladesh including the Bangladesh Premier League football is postponed with the spread of coronavirus and the situation is even tougher for the foreign recruits of football clubs as they are trapped in the country.
When all the local players of the 13 top-flight clubs are released, the foreign players and coaches are staying in isolated situation in their respective apartments and club tents.
No wonder majority of them wants to go home after the BPL is suspended for long time but there is little way due to travel restrictions.
“We will discuss with their foreign coach and foreign players to fix the next course of action as the local players have already left the camp. But right now, there is no way out for them due to travel bans around the world.” said Satyajit Das Rupu, the manager of Abahani Limited.
Abahani’s Portuguese coach Mario Lemos, Kyrgyzstan midfielder Edger Bernhardt, Brazilian and Egyptian defenders Mailson Alves and Allaeldin Eissa are staying in apartments while Nigerian striker Sunday Chizoba and Haitian winger Kervens Belfort were staying in the empty club dormitory.
Bashundhara Kings’ Spanish coach Oscar Bruzon, Costa Rican forward Daniel Colindres, Argentine and Tajikistan defenders Nicholas Delmonte and Akhtam Nazarov and Kyrgyzstan midfielder Baktyiar Duishobekov are staying in apartments while former Argentine national striker Hernan Barcos left the country last week for Brazil to live up the situation with his wife.
Currently around 60 foreign players from 21 countries are staying in Dhaka including three from Tajikistan, one of the few countries that has not recorded any coronavirus cases by Tuesday but they too banned foreign flights to the country including from Bangladesh.
