Badal Roy and Mohiuddin Ahmed Mohi, the vice-presidents of Bangladesh Football federation, on Thursday requested the BFF to postpone its upcoming election, scheduled to be held on April 20, due to Covid-19 pandemic.
“We don’t think it is wise to hold the BFF Election in such situation created from the coronavirus outbreak. We request to the federation to postpone the polls.” said Badal to media while Mohi gave a hand-written statement.
Badal earlier announced to run for president post if there is no candidate to challenge incumbent Kazi Salahuddin, who was elected three consecutive times in 2008, 2012 and 2016. Salahuddin was adament until Wednesday to hold the upcoming election in due time.
Abu Nayeem Shohag, the general secretary of BFF, informed they are still continuing the formalities to hold the election in time unless the situation changes. The tenure of current executive committee ends on April 30.
“BFF is still positive to hold the election in due time. All the procedures are taking place accordingly. We are keeping contacts with the AFC and giving them updates. We have to wait a little bit more before any decision arrives due to coronavirus situation.” said the BFF general secretary.
