Bashundhara Kings head coach Oscar Bruzon has the habit of making hilarious quips all the time but one he made to describe the relationship between Daniel Colindres and Hernan Barcos gave extreme pleasure to the people surrounding him.
Bruzon said his two foreign recruits have the chemistry like “husband and wife” at the press conference following their big 5-1 win against Maldives side TC Sports Club in their debut of AFC Cup campaign Wednesday.
“Colindres was like a single person. I think Daniel and Barcos are like wife and husband. They understand each other, not only on the pitch but also off the pitch,” said Bruzon after Barcos’ quadruple and Colindres solitary goal helped Kings thrash TC at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.
The best player of the last Bangladesh Premier League, Colindres was not the happiest man on the pitch this season after creating numerous chances only to see most of those squandered by his teammates until yesterday when he assisted two for Barcos while scoring one himself.
Barcos however, missed a couple of chances created by Colindres before the first goal.
Kings conceded their first defeat (1-0) of the league against Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited in Comilla earlier this week with Colindres feeding innumerable crosses inside the box.
Argentine striker Hernan Barcos made a remarkable debut in Bangladesh with a sensational quadruple as Bashundhara Kings kicked off their maiden AFC Cup 2020 campaign from Group E with a dominating 5-1 win over TC Sports in Dhaka Wednesday.https://t.co/RTPdAA2i4K#FOOTBALL #AFC

“The game of Comilla was very similar but the only difference is conversion. When you have good striker like Barcos they will utilize the benefits. We had a critical problem in finishing because we didn’t have a striker like Hernan,” said Bruzon.
“His [Barcos] performance is out of my words. Barcos is a world-class player but it is not him alone but there are likes of Biplo [Ahmed], Ibra [Mohammad Ibrahim], I think all of them were really outstanding. This game is something that we have been waiting for long time,” said the Spanish coach.
Bruzon was also full of praise for his goalkeeper Anisur Rahman Zico, who produced three saves from the penalty spot.
“Zico is a player who has something else and he is showing this season after season. What he did [Wednesday] was absolutely super. I didn’t see anywhere in world football that a goalkeeper saved three penalties in a match. This is not luck but the mentality of this player,” said Bruzon.
Mohamed Shazly, the head coach of TC, also admitted that it was Barcos who made the difference.
“The difference between other teams in the group and Kings are the foreign recruits. We played well but it was very difficult to deal with Barcos. He changed the game. As he didn’t play for the club before, we didn’t know how he would perform and his combination with others would be. Now we know how to mark him in home tie,” said Shazly.
Bashundhara will travel to Maldives for the return leg on May 13 after playing away against reigning Maldives champion Maziya Sports and Recreation Club on April 14.
