Muktijoddha, Mohammedan into quarters

Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra and Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited advanced to the Federation Cup quarter-finals, by virtue of getting the least number of yellow cards.

Muktijoddha, Mohammedan and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra finished with five points each following the conclusion of their group stage matches but the latter had to bow out after receiving the most yellows, which was taken into consideration to determine the quarter-finalists.

Remarkably, all three teams also ended up with identical goal difference but Sheikh Russel had to bite the dust for their indiscretions.

In the final Group D game, Muktijoddha and Sheikh Russel played out a 1-1 draw at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Saturday.

Muktijoddha finished as the group champion while Mohammedan ended as the runners-up.

It was Sheikh Russel however, who took the lead in the 12th minute through Azizov Alisher, who headed home after a goalmouth scramble.

The two teams went into the break with Sheikh Russel leading 1-0 but Muktijoddha fought back in the second half, bringing parity in the 51st minute through Ismael Bangoura who evaded the off-side trap and struck home.
