Never ending action on day three

Day 3 of the 14th Ascent Corporate Football Cup yesterday started off exactly where Day 2 finished off with the never ending action.

The weather outside did nothing to hinder supporters from showing up.

MTB seemed to have kept the energy from the day before and returned with an identical score of 8-0 against newcomer Bangladesh University; Captain Alamin and Deepu scoring a hat-trick each.

The Ascent Football Cup hasn't been kind to the new comer, but that did not deplete the team's spirit.

BU will hopefully come out stronger in their remaining games while MTB are looking like they will sweep the Cup.

The first half of the game between Interport and Beatnik was intense with neither side giving an inch.

However, a second half hat-trick from Interport skipper Tanjil took the game away from the new comer and Interport scored five to finish off the game.

After getting hammered in their first game, Selise came back strong in their second game with a high spirited performance and continuous attacks to give IIDLC a good run for their money (No pun intended).

A brace from Waes had Selise in the front by half time, however, IIDLC came back in the second half with goals from Murad and Alam to pull back the game and end it in a draw.

United Finance found the going tough against BProperty as goals from Shakil, Mark and Ashraful saw them off the game 3-0.

The game between MNCs, BAT and Telenor saw BAT continuing their great run in this tournament and gave the newcomer Telenor a good hiding as they put seven past Telenor's defence.

The game ended 7-2.

Up next was the most happening game of the morning between Porcelanosa and Le Meridien.

After a disappointing loss Friday, Porcelanosa came back with the intent to win and fought Le Meridein tooth and nail.

Porcelanosa's captain Aritz picked up a nasty injury which meant, they had to play with four men.

Despite being one man down, the match ended in a 5-5 draw with Carlos from Porcelanosa and Zaman from Le Meridien each scoring hat-tricks.

There were no further upsets for the rest of the first half of the day as City Bank ran riot against the helpless Flora defence putting 11 past their defense, with Rajib scoring five goals.

Ascent Cup then saw its first goalless draw of the tournament between Jaago and Intertek.

Concord could not match Bongo's experience as they bowed down to them with the scoreline of 4-1.

Intertek's Amin's hat-trick ensured the early brace from Petromax did not catch wind, and ending the game with a solid 4-1 to Intertek's name.

BAT's goalkeeper’s solid performance in-front of the goal ensured a clean sheet for them as they won the game 3-0 against Emkay.

Giant Unilever's fluid passing and great possession lead them to score two goals inside the first minute of the game.

They overpowered University of South Asia with an emphatic 11-0.

Cosponsor Akash took on Bextex in a thrilling 3-2 game.

However, the scoreline does not do justice to the keepers of both teams pulling in amazing saves.

The first half ended with a scoreline of 1-1.

But early in the second half, two great goals from free-kicks outside the half court gave Akash the lead.

A stunning free kick goal from Bextex was not enough to pull them back in the game.

Fakhiruddin v Petromax was a rather routine affair with Petromax inching past with two goals to Fakhiruddin's one.

Just when we thought nothing more was going to happen we had the game of the tournament.

There were meaty tackles, players brawling, getting time outs and stories of redemption.

Media partner Dhaka Tribune attacked from get go but Brac's keeper showed solid defense and did not gave in to the pressure from the Dhaka Tribune strikers.

A free-kick goal gave Dhaka Tribune the lead at the start of half time.

However, a rather rejuvenated performance saw Brac Bank pull one back with a free-kick from Shams, who earlier was given a two minute time out for a foul.

The game ended with both teams sharing the point with 1-1.

The game between Lalteer and Eon was really the battle of the keepers in the second half.

The first half saw Lalteer take an early lead inside the first minute of kick off.

However, Eon counterattacked and equalized within 30 seconds from a deflection off Lalteer player.

Soon after another own goal from a deflection of a Lalteer player gifted Eon the lead.

A howler of a shot gave Eon the breathing space they needed with the game ending with a scoreline of 3-1.

The game between title sponsor Ascent and Securex was nothing short of spectacular.

Both teams attacked with the intention to dominate and score as many for their team as well as the charity "Score for Schooling" with their bosses watching the games from the stand.

Securex played their heart out however, came short against much stronger Ascent team losing the game 4-2.

As of the time of this report, Polar are melting away against FMCL going two goals down in the first half.

But in the second half, they showed their spirit and came back scoring five goals and ending the thrilling match with a scoreline of 5-2 to Polar.
