Sabina rues lack of seniors after Saff loss

Bangladesh women’s football team captain Sabina Khatun has rued the lack of senior players for their semi-final loss against India in the recently concluded Saff Championship.

She said this to the media at the BFF House in Dhaka following their return from Nepal.

Sabina said, “We felt the lack of senior players in our team. We could have fought harder if we had more seniors.”

In Nepal, she was the only senior player in the Bangladesh side, mostly comprising age-level footballers.

“We avoided Nepal in the previous Saff Championship semis, that’s why we could play the final. India and Nepal are much more experienced than us in all aspects. Also, women’s football began much earlier in those two countries. Hence, the difference in quality between us and those teams,” she said.

Bangladesh conceded a 4-0 loss to eventual champion India in the last four after finishing as the runners-up in the group stage.
