No scope for international friendlies in November, says BFF

There will be no friendly for Bangladesh during November’s Fifa match days after Sri Lanka officially scrapped the BFF’s proposal to play the game due to an unstable political situation in their country, confirmed BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag.

The Fifa international window is scheduled for Novermber 12 to 20 where the BFF tried to arrange a friendly match or mini tournament with a verbal proposal to neighbors like Bhutan and Nepal and Sri Lanka became the last country to let them know about their unavailability.

There was no match in the ongoing Federation Cup fixtures during the Fifa window but with the plan scrapped, the federation is likely to reshuffle the fixtures and release a new one before the knockout stage begins on Thursday.

“We wanted to play but unfortunately there are no games. The plan is now to continue with the Federation Cup,” national team head coach Jamie Day told to Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.

The English coach added, “Obviously I would like to have a training camp just to see them again at work. I’m looking now towards February-March next year ahead of the U23 [AFC] qualifiers.”

The AFC U23 Championship 2020 qualifiers are scheduled to be held on March 22-26 next year. Bangladesh will get to know their opponents during the draw on Wednesday. Day said that his plan is now to follow the Federation Cup and Premier League matches in between this time before picking his upcoming squad.
