Rajshahi and Rangpur advanced to the final of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup U-17 Football Tournament after winning their respective semi-finals at Bir Sreshtha Shaheed Sipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur Thursday.
In the first semi-final, Rajshahi edged Dhaka 6-5 on penalties after normal time ended 1-1. Babu gave Rajshahi the lead in the 78th minute before Badhan brought parity in the dying stages of the game.
In the tie-breaker, Hasibul, Shanto, Muntasir, Pradeep, Humayun and Ahad netted for Rajshahi while Sohel Rana Sumon, Rafiqul Islam, Ananda, Badhan and Rakib scored for Dhaka. Rajshahi’s Adnan Hossain Mahin was adjudged player of the match.
In the second semi-final, Rangpur beat Khulna 1-0, Mohammad Shamim Islam netting the all-important goal. Rangpur’s Dipak Ray was named man of the match.
