Bangladesh U-18 girls crush Pakistan 17-0 in Bhutan

Mosammat Sirat Jahan Shopna scored a whopping seven goals as Bangladesh girls razed Pakistan 17-0 in their Saff U-18 Championship match at Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan Sunday.

It was a completely dominant performance by tournament favourite Bangladesh as Pakistan had no answer to the opponent’s relentless attacks.

Alongside Shopna, Marzia also shone brightly with four goals while Sheuli Azim bagged a brace. Captain Mosammat Mishrat Jahan Mousumi, Akhi Khatun, Srimoti Krishna Rani Sarkar and Tahura Khatun netted one apiece.

The Bangladesh girls had also thumped Pakistan 14-0 in the Saff U-15 Championship in Bhutan in August this year but Sunday's performance was even better for Mousumi and Co.

Bangladesh had 25 shots on target against Pakistan’s nought while the former had 11 shots off target, against the latter’s zero. The girls in red and green also got two penalties and 16 corners whereas hapless Pakistan registered none in both the categories.

Bangladesh scored eight in the first half and nine in the second, in the process advancing to the semi-final. The Bangladesh girls will face Nepal in their last Group B match Tuesday at the same venue.

Nepal have also qualified for the last four after thumping Pakistan 12-0 in their opening game, thus rendering Tuesday's battle between Nepal and Bangladesh as a direct fight for top spot in Group B.

Group A comprises India, host Bhutan and Maldives. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semis, scheduled to be held Friday. The final and third-place decider will be held Sunday.
