Bangladesh Olympic team drew 1-1 against Thailand in their second Group B Match of the Asian Games 2018 at Pakansari Stadium in Bogor, West Java in Indonesia on Thursday.
Youngster Mahbubur Rahman Sufil gave the men in red and green the deserved lead seven minutes into the second half after going close to twice scoring in the opening half.
A solid defensive display by Jamie Day’s troupe kept the lead intact until the 80th minute before goalkeeper Ashraful Islam Rana’s blunder gifted substitute forward Supachai Chaided an easy chance equalize the margin and he made no mistake.
Meanwhile, the senior national side has not won or drawn against Thailand since 1989.
Bangladesh began the game brightly, more organized in midfield and compact in defense than they were in the previous game and they pressed the opponents all over the pitch.
Sufil gave Bangladesh a stunning lead seven minutes into the second-half with smart placing from the top six-yard box after Topu Barman’s back-header, when Bishwanath Ghosh’s throw-in fell onto the feet of the young forward.
Bangladesh head coach Jamie Day made only one change in the starting eleven with Sushanta Tripura replacing Rahmat Mia at the left-back spot while Thailand made three changes from their 1-1 draw against Qatar. Midfielders Phitiwat Sookjitthumma, Ekanit Panya, defender Saringkan Promsupa came in for Nopphon Phonkam, Sansern Limwatthana and Shinnaphat Leeaoh.
