AFC Futsal: Bangladesh conclude campaign with 6-1 loss

Bangladesh, after gaining their first ever futsal experience, and that too at the continental level with a relatively young squad, concluded their AFC Women's Futsal Championship campaign with a 6-1 defeat against Chinese Taipei at Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand Sunday. After Sanjida Akhter and Maria Manda both missed sitters, Bangladesh's only player with futsal experience, captain Sabina Khatun scored the only goal in the 23rd minute, firing home from three metres following a fine run by Maria. Sabina was selected among the best three players of the group stage, despite her side finishing at the bottom of Group B with three straight defeats. The five-a-side futsal games have been a new experience for the Bangladesh girls as all of the squad members are aged below 18 except Sabina. Head coach Golam Rabbani Choton said, “I think our girls showed what they learned in the first two matches. We have a lot of talented players here, but they’re new to futsal. I think they’re becoming a good futsal team. They are becoming more confident and we had four or five great chances. I think they did very well.”
