Confident Bangladesh U18s take on Maldives Wednesday

A confident Bangladesh U-18 team are looking forward to carrying on the consistency when they take on Maldives in their second match of the Saff U-18 Championship 2017 at Changlimithang Stadium in Bhutan’s capital Thimphu Wednesday at 7pm. The men in red and green will go into the game fresh from the memory of their historic comeback from the previous match where Bangladesh came from 3-0 down to snatch a remarkable 4-3 victory against regional powerhouse India. “We are not getting carried away with the fact that we had a brilliant start by beating south Asian giant India,” said Bangladesh head coach Mahbubur Rahman Roksy at the pre-match presser Tuesday.

Boosted by the India win, the junior Bangladesh boys would have a chance to prove once again that they are an improved version of the struggling senior national team. The senior side lost to Maldives 3-1 in the group stage of the Saff Championship two years ago. Roksy continued, “We are not underestimating Maldives in any way. We have seen their match. They are a good team. Right now we are concentrating on each match separately. We are now in a good position to win the championship fight. All our focus is on winning the trophy so we are ready to play three upcoming matches.” Key team member and captain Tutul Hossain Badshah wants to rectify the mistakes they had committed against India.

“We did a lot of silly mistakes in the first half. We will not certainly repeat them in the next game. We are more focused and confident and serious about the tournament,” said the Abahani centre-back. Team manager Amirul Islam Babu informed that the physical condition of the players is sound and alright and was under no illusions with the tough tasks facing the side as the tournament progresses.
