In-form forwards Wedson Anselme and Emeka Darlington netted a brace apiece as defending champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club continued their domination at the summit of the Manyavar Bangladesh Premier League points table following their 5-1 rout over Chittagong Abahani away at MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong yesterday.
Meanwhile in the day’s other match at Bangabandhu National Stadium, Rahmatganj MFS overturned a two-goal deficit to earn a point against Farashganj.
Courtesy the thumping win, Sheikh Jamal moved seven points clear at the top with 33 points from 14 matches, seven ahead of second-placed Mohammedan, who have played a game less. The port-city outfit on the other hand remained second bottom with seven points from 14 matches.
Rahmatganj and Farashganj are eighth and bottom with 11 and five points respectively, having played 13 matches each.
Away in Chittagong, Yeamin Ahmed Munna put the Dhanmondi outfit ahead in just the ninth minute before Nigerian striker Emeka doubled the lead in the 17th minute. Wedson extended the lead to 4-0, having scored in the 41st and 51st minutes, while Emeka added his second in injury time to complete the rout. Hanif grabbed the consolation goal a minute before the final whistle.
Yesterday’s brace propelled Wedson to the top of the highest goal-scorers’ list. Wedson now has 15 goals to his name, one more than Brothers Union’s Augustine Walson and two more than teammate Emeka.
Meanwhile in Dhaka, Farashganj took a 2-0 lead and were all set for their first three points of the season only to be denied by Rahmatganj.
Nigerian striker Akinyele Peter gave Farashganj the lead with just 45 seconds into the clock while Pashbon Molla made it 2-0 seven minutes into the second half.
Rahmatganj reduced the arrears in the 78th minute, thanks to an own goal from Farashganj’s Nigerian defender David Udoh Brown. Farashganj’s misery was completed in injury time when Rahmatganj midfielder Mohammad Helal slotted home past goalkeeper Sujan Chowdhury.
