Bangladesh football captain Mamunul Haque speaks about their chances against Tajikistan in the Fifa World Cup Qualifiers.
What do you think of Bangladesh’s trend of conceding goals from set-pieces?
There is a solution. Coach (Lodewijk de kruif) worked a lot about set-pieces but we made mistakes on the pitch. Why do we have to concede goals from long range? It has become a routine. The first free-kick luckily hit the side post and entered the goal. Goalkeeper would have saved it if the ball was in between the bars.
About Bangladesh’s victory against Tajikistan in the AFC Challenge Cup in Colombo, 2010.
We should not think about the past rather concentrate on the present. The victory in 2010 will inspire us but if we get stuck with the past we can’t do anything in 2015. The playing style changed a lot. Football is now fast and powerful. Power is now being used mostly. The important thing is not to concede silly goals.
About tomorrow’s game?
I always say that the country’s football will only move ahead depending on the results. The national team result is very important in football which we all players know. Everyone wants to do well because people will remember us if we can do something for the country. We will try to give our best in this game. Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan both are almost similar in strengths. They play better than us and overall, they are ahead of us in every aspect. We just want to bring the game to us by playing positive football.
