Tigers seal the victory

Bangladesh have snapped their 25-match losing streak by smashing Pakistan for the first time in 16 years by 79 runs in their first ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.

It is Bangladesh's second win against Pakistan, and their first since the 1999 World Cup.

Bangladesh posted their highest ODI total, thanks to brilliant hundreds from Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim. Their 178-run partnership for the third wicket was a delight to watch, with Rahim firing on all cylinders. Their stand was Bangladesh's highest for any wicket in ODIs, against any opposition.

It is the first time as two Bangladesh batsmen have scored centuries in a 50-over match.

The hosts lost two early wickets before posting 100 runs. But Tamim's first century since 2013, revived the sluggish Bangladesh.

Opening batsman Soumya run-out at 20 while Mahmudullah went back to the pavilion for 5. Wahab Riaz took the costly wicket of Tamim at 132.

In the end, good hits from Shakib and Sabbir helped Bangladesh post 329 on the board.

Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny bagged three wickets each while Skipper Sakib Al Hasan and Rubel Hossain picked up one wicket each for host side.

Taskin Ahmed has sent Haris Sohail to the pavilion in a clever delivery. Haris was turning Pak side to chase the mammoth target hitting a half century. He scored 51 off 64 deliveries.

Taskin got his second wicket. The delivery was dug in short and rushed onto Haris, who pulled it in the air. Mahmudullah ran from mid-on and pouched it, tumbling to the ground.

The young pacemaker sets off on a flying celebration after picking Azhar Ali at 27th over. Azhar scored 72 off 73 balls. Azar wanted to run Taskin delivery away through slip, instead edges it to the keeper Mushfiqur Rahim, who moves to his right and caught it easily.

Mohammad Hafeez (4) was late to react from the non-striker’s end after Azhar Ali played to mid-on. Soumya Sarkar’s accurate throw caught him short of the crease.

Pakistan managed 214 for4 after 39 overs and they need another Pakistan require another 114 runs with 6 wickets and 11.0 overs remaining at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Spinner Arafat Sunny gave the breakthrough as Sarfraz Ahmed (24) swept high and holed out to Nasir Hossain at backward square leg.
