Watch: Ashton Agar v Aleem Dar in table tennis showdown

Footage has emerged from Dhaka of an ICC elite panel umpire and an Australian Test squad member locked in heated battle on the eve of Sunday’s first Test. Veteran umpire Aleem Dar and left-arm spinner Ashton Agar have been captured exchanging blows in a high-stakes game of table tennis, reports cricket.com.au Queensland batsman Usman Khawaja shared the vision of Dar and Agar going back and forth via his Instagram account on Thursday.

The pair can be seen trading forehands with the Australian Test hopeful appearing to get the better of the Pakistani official. Agar and Dar were at the centre of Ashes controversy in 2013 when the umpire gave Stuart Broad not out caught at first slip from the bowling of the 19-year-old debutant. It is unknown whether that moment was brought up between points. This, of course, was played in good spirits, as players and umpires explore different ways to occupy their time after rain played havoc with training and preparation in the Bangladesh capital. Table tennis has been a popular escape for the Australians on overseas tours when the skies open. In 2013, George Bailey defeated Mitchell Johnson in a three-set epic in India to be crowned the 2013 Australian Cricket Team Table Tennis champion. Bailey channeled his inner Pat Cash to beat Johnson and walk away with trophy. Whether that final had anything to do with Bailey making his Test debut against England that summer and Johnson bulldozing 37 English batsmen in the Ashes remains unknown, but seems more than likely.
