The 27th edition of the Federation Cup begins at Bangabandhu National Stadium with Mohammedan facing Rahmatganj in the opening match at 4pm today. In the other match of the inaugural day, defending champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will take on Feni Soccer Club at 6:15pm.
The ongoing political crisis is not likely to hamper the tournament as the Bangladesh Football Federation has already ensured top-level secutiry in and around the venue.
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader will inaugurate the event as the chief guest.
The prices of the tickets have been fixed at Tk30 for the galleries and Tk80 for the VIP stands.
In the pre-match presser yesterday, Sheikh Jamal skipper Nasir Uddin Chowdhury said they are all set to defend their title. His counterpart Akbar Hossain Ridon, captain of Feni, said they have nothing to lose and will take the field full of confidence.
Mohammedan skipper Arup Baidya pinned his team’s hopes upon the youngsters and vowed to fight for the title.
Rahmatganj captain Jahidul Hasan Dalim on the other hand said they want to revive their tag of giant-killers.
