Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan believes the Tigers will be better off playing India in three ODIs rather than a Test match when the defending champions tour the country later this year.
In accordance with the International Cricket Council’s Future Tours Programme, Bangladesh are scheduled to host bilateral series against Pakistan, South Africa, Australia and India this year. According to the FTP, India are scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a Test match.
Nazmul, however, is looking to bring a change in the plans, if possible. The BCB supremo told the media yesterday that they will ask India if they are interested to play three ODIs instead of a Test. Nazmul though did not clarify their inclination towards the shorter format.
“This year we are playing full series against Pakistan, South Africa and Australia,” said Nazmul.
“India are only supposed to play one Test here. We are thinking what will happen by playing a Test against India? It may be better to play three ODIs against them. We are going to put forward this proposal. But, it is almost finalised that we will play a Test against India in 2016 in Eden Gardens,” he added.
Nazmul’s recent comment is a direct contradiction to his previous statement when he mentioned that the Tigers should place more importance on Tests compared to the shorter formats.
