Razzak five-for keeps Kalabagan upbeat

In a race to survive in the top flight, Kalabagan KC gained some much needed confidence ahead of their crucial relegation tie against Partex as they strolled past a hapless Old DOHS in the Dhaka Premier League yesterday.

Veteran left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak bagged five wickets to lead Kalabagan to a convincing eight-wicket win at BKSP-4 yesterday.

The match was curtailed to 30 overs with heavy fog forcing a delayed start and the Kalabagan bowlers made full use of the conditions to restrict DOHS to just 115.

32-year-old Razzak, who was left out from the Tigers squad in the last home series against Zimbabwe, bagged five for 20 from just 5.1 overs to make a strong statement to the national selectors ahead of the World Cup. He was well complimented by paceman Shahadat Hossain who picked three wickets.

Kalabagan lost Shamsur Rahman (22) and Jupiter Ghosh (19) in their run chase, but safely reached their target with 6.5 overs to spare. Nasiruddin Faruque remained unbeaten on 46 off 67 balls while Zimbabwean Elton Chigumbura was not out on 13.

The match between Kalabagan and Partex on December 22 will decide the second team to join DOHS in first division next season.
