Capel new Bangladesh women's cricket coach

Bangladesh Cricket Board has appointed former England all-rounder David Capel as the new coach of the national women’s team.

The 53-year old will soon join the ongoing preparation camp ahead of next month’s Women’s Asia Cup in Thailand. His initial contract with the BCB is until the end of Bangladesh’s campaign in the Women’s World Cup Qualifier, to be held in Sri Lanka in February, 2017.

Capel, an England and Wales Cricket Board Level 4 coach, had been the assistant coach with the England women’s team which had recorded series wins against Australia, Pakistan, the West Indies, New Zealand and India between 2013 and 2015 and reached the final of the 2014 Women’s World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.

From 2006 to 2012, Capel performed the role of head coach and first team manager of the Northamptonshire County Cricket Club. He was a handy batsman and right-arm seamer and represented England in 15 Tests and 23 ODIs.

Earlier, Sri Lankan Janak Gamage resigned from the post in May this year.
