University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) were knocked out from Group 2 in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals after losing their last group game to Leeds-Bradford MCC University by a huge 120 runs at Wormsley yesterday.
Having won one and lost one, it was a must-win situation for ULAB but they faltered against the local side who lost both their matches prior this encounter. Their first win, however, came with bonus points and it lifted Leeds-Bradford to the second place in the table.
Leeds-Bradford opted to bat first and put up a challenging 189 for five. ULAB were hoping for their openers – Hasanuzzaman and Avishek Mitra – to fire once again, but their cheap dismissals left the side in dire straits.
Skipper Hasanuzzaman and Avishek, both of them coming to this game on the back of half centuries in the previous game, returned for single-digit scores as the remaining line-up also surrendered cheaply to the Leeds-Bradford bowlers.
Coming in at No. 4, Izal Khan remained unbeaten on 34 as he saw his partners fall like a house of cards from the other end. ULAB were all out for 69 runs in 18.3 overs.
Earlier, contributions from Nick Gubbins (42), Chris Wakefield (49), Charlie Roebuck (35) and Liam Watkinson (40) helped Leeds-Bradford to reach the target, though it was the latter surge from Watkinson that caused the most damage. Watkinson faced just 22 balls and struck five fours and two sixes in his unbeaten innings.
Tanmoy Roy grabbed two wickets for ULAB while Morsalin Mortaza, Abdullah Imran and Tanvir Ahmed claimed a wicket each.
ULAB finished last in the group with four points.
