Bangladesh A team coach Corey Richards believes consistency will be key as his side prepare to take on High Performance Centre Unit in their upcoming three-week tour of the West Indies.
With a combination of youth and experience, the second-string national side is scheduled to leave for the Caribbean today to participate in two four-day matches, three one-dayers and two Twenty20s at four different venues in Barbados. Bangladesh A team will begin their campaign with a four-dayer slated to be held at Winward Cricket Club on May 26.
The two T20s have been reserved for the last phase of the tour while the three one-dayers will take place on June 8, 10 and 12 at Kensington Oval, Winward Cricket Club and Carlton Cricket Ground respectively.
“We’re preparing for the pace and bouncy wickets of the West Indies,” Corey told the media at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium yesterday.
“The players were serious in the practice sessions. Overall preparation for the series is good,” he added.
“We need to be consistent for doing well. The process we follow is on the right track till now,” said the outgoing fielding coach of the Bangladesh national team, who is currently going through his two-month notice period after tendering his resignation.
Bangladesh A team skipper Nasir Hossain on the other hand emphasised on the importance of playing a good brand of cricket.
“We didn’t set any targets in the upcoming tour of the West Indies. But we want to play good cricket there,” said Nasir.
Nasir admitted to a dip in form but said he was aiming to put it right in the upcoming tour. “In the last few matches I failed to score well but I am looking forward to playing my best cricket in this tour. I always try to contribute for the team’s success. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I fail,” said Nasir.
“I have been to the West Indies before. I remember of scoring 36 runs in an innings. This time I want to slam a century there,” he added.
Nasir stated that if the pacers maintain proper line and length the desired outcome will follow.
“The pace-attack of the team is good. But the bowlers have to bowl maintaining the basic rules in order to do well. If they can bowl maintaining their line and length, it will be really effective,” concluded Nasir.
