Shamsur, Nasir likely to be named in ‘A’ team

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is likely to announce the Bangladesh ‘A’ team tomorrow which is scheduled to leave the country on May 22 for a month long tour to West Indies. The tour will consist two three-day, three one-day and two T20 matches.

It was learnt that most of the current national team players along with few performers from the domestic cricket league and under-19 side will be named in the ‘A’ team.

With the existing national team scenario it does not need to mention that the tour to West Indies will be the top priority for the touring players as it will be a great opportunity for them to make a statement to the national team selection committee since Bangladesh will be visiting the same country in August.

Eyes will be on Shamsur Rahman and Nasir Hossain who failed to perform for the Tigers in recent times and their performance here will be instrumental.

Fast bowler Mohammad Sharif, who last played for the national side in a Test match against Sri Lanka in 2007, performed heavily in the recently concluded National Cricket League. The 30-year-old is likely to be rewarded with a place in the ‘A’ team along with young left-arm spinner Taijul Islam.

Meanwhile a string of resignations from the foreign coaches in the last 11 days -  Shane Jurgensen,  Richard McInnes and Corey Richards – might see the BCB opt for former national cricketer and  under-19 coach Mizanur Rahman Babul to guide the second string national side to West Indies.
