The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will announce both men’s and women’s squads for the 2014 Asian Games within next two days. The BCB cricket operations chairman Akram Khan informed so to the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.
Akram informed that a draft squad of 27-men and a squad for the women have been chalked down and is waiting for approval.
“We have to meet the deadline of April 30 to submit the squads to the BOA (Bangladesh Olympic Association) for which we will confirm the squad within next two or three days,” said Akram.
Bangladesh won its first-ever gold medal in the Asian Games when the cricket team defeated Afghanistan in the final game of the Twenty20 competition in China in 2010.
This time it is expected that nearly all the Test playing nations from Asia will participate and will send a ‘good’ team.
In 2010, it was only India, the senior cricket nation from Asia, who skipped from sending a team. It is expected that they won’t send a side this time too.
“We are actually not looking into who are participating in the competition and who are not. We believe participating in the Asian Games will enhance our cricket,” said the former Bangladesh national captain.
The matches will be played in Incheon, a city located in the north-west of South Korea from September 19, just two days after Bangladesh national team ends their tour of West Indies. With no international commitments in next three weeks, Akram informed that the board intends to send the best possible squad.
