Borren proud, Giles embarrassed

England coach Ashley Giles termed the 45 runs defeat to Netherlands ‘embarrassing’ and informed that it has also made the side angry for people have travelled to Bangladesh to watch them. He also credited Netherlands for the good work.

The statement from the 41-year-old came in right a day after he had reiterated desire for the England job after World T20 exit. Giles stated of ‘complacency’ to be one of the reason behind the humiliating defeat.

“It was embarrassing with all due respect to the Dutch (Netherlands), where they come from and what they had to do, they played with passion and pride, we did that in the last three games, but it was poor today (yesterday),” said the former England player.

“We had to concentrate to get the job done. I thought we started the game poorly, we were tentative, 47 for 1 after six overs, you can’t choose when to turn it off and turn it on. 130 we should still get. But every ball counts and they played brilliantly,” he said.

Giles didn’t want to discuss of what he will say to the team in their next meeting but, “We will have a chat before we depart [for England]. I hope they will know that that’s not acceptable, I am sure they will a little reminder will help. We are all playing for our country. Again I repeat myself, every time you run a ball, bat a ball, field a ball you got to have everything in and we weren’t today (yesterday).”

While for the Netherlands skipper Peter Borren the moment after the win was of ‘proud’. This was the second time that the Dutch had faced England in the format and on both occasions they were victorious. When quarried for the difference of the two wins, Borren said, “It is completely different, although this one in a way is more satisfying because there’s a lot more build up and a lot more work. Back in 2009 they didn’t know what to expect we just sort of came into the radar.

“We just ambushed them in 2009, today (yesterday) we won by 45-runs or something, it is not the same as jubilation, it is Chittagong not Lords. This one is more satisfying.”

Being the only ICC Associate Member side in the Super 10s, Borren thought he and his side were representatives of the Associate Member teams. But he is also unhappy that he and his men have practically nothing to do in near future after reaching home in spite of such heroic performances.

“Probably no one else has got another job, we have had a hectic schedule last three years, it is not quite full time remuneration but associate cricket has been playing a lot of cricket, where as in 2009 a few other guys were working, now it s pretty tough to sort of to combine work and cricket. Although it might change now, we might not have much cricket in the near future,” informed Borren.
