Ireland women’s finished their ICC World Twenty20 campaign at the bottom of Group A without a single victory as they were handed a 14-run defeat against Pakistan at the Sylhet International Stadium yesterday.
It was Pakistan women’s first victory in their last group match that kept their hopes alive to play in the next edition of World Twenty20, while Ireland has no chance to make it to the next edition in India in 2016.
Opting to bat first, Pakistan rode on player of the match Bismah Maroof’s unbeaten 45-ball 48 to post a decent 119 for 6. Qanita Jalil and captain Sana Mir also added 16 runs each. Isobel Joyce and Louise McCarthy took two wickets each for the Irish.
In reply, Ireland lost Mary Waldron in the very first over before veteran opener Clare Shillington and captain Isobel Joyce took control of the situation with a 44-run partnership. However, following the dismissal of the duo the Irish side lost wickets in regular basis before they were eventually bowled out for 105 with three balls to spare.
Joyce scored 9-ball 32 while Clare added 19. Asmavia Iqbal picked up three wickets for 18 runs for Pakistan.
