Excited Miraz flies off to the Caribbean

Bangladesh off-spinning all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz left Dhaka on Thursday to join his Caribbean Premier League side Trinbago Knight Riders. On Thursday, Miraz and his Bangladesh colleague in the same CPL side, ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan, were issued the No Objection Certificate. The duo's stay at the Caribbean islands can be extended if Australia's tour of Bangladesh this August for two Test matches is cancelled. The series fell into uncertainty over the pay dispute between Cricket Australia and its cricketers.

Shakib is scheduled to leave Dhaka on Saturday. Miraz's appearance in the tournament will be his maiden in an away T20 league. The 19-year old will share the dressing room with star cricketers like Hashim Amla of South Africa, Brendon McCullum of New Zealand and Sunil Narine of the West Indies.
“I will be in a team with world renowned players so definitely I look forward to the experience which will help me to progress as a cricketer. Amla is one of the top five batsmen in the world so there is ample things to learn from him. I will try to take tips from him and then there will be Narine from whom I can always bag bowling tips. All in all, I hope this will be a good learning experience for me,” Miraz told the media on Thursday.
Miraz, as per the current NOC, will be available for Trinbago for five matches and if he gets lucky, he can make his debut in the tournament opener, against Saint Lucia Stars in Gros Islet next Friday.

Given the globalisation of the game, Miraz believes performance in the CPL can open the doors for him in the other parts of the world. “Trinbago are owned by the same company as Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. So of course a good performance in CPL can create opportunity elsewhere. At this point, I can say I will be able to give my 100%. Bangladesh supporters will be looking forward to my matches as I will be representing the country,” said Miraz. Miraz made a flying start to his international career as he shone brightly in the Test series at home against England last year. The right-arm spinner in his debut Test picked up seven wickets and then went on to bag 12 in the second and final Test of the series to inspire the Tigers to a historical win. With the Test series against Australia scheduled right after Miraz's appearance in the CPL T20, questions are being raised if the cricketer will get enough time to change his game and mindset. “I hope I will be able to prepare well (for the Australia series). The Test series is set to start from August 27 and I will take the return flight from the West Indies on August 15. So there will be some 12 days in between which I believe is enough to get myself ready for the Test series,” Miraz explained.
