Batting failure swipes Bangladesh

Bangladesh collapsed after the exit of skipper Mushfiqur Rahim in what was a poor display of batting throughout the opening innings in the first Test against Sri Lanka.

Only four batsmen could score double figures after the Tigers ended their first innings with 232 on the board following the early dismissal of the top order.

Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim tried to steady the helm with Shakib Al Hasan and Sohag Gazi, but they continued play in typical one day cricket temperament.

The disappointing batting streak of Bangladesh began from the morning with early fall of the top order.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan seemed to have steadied the opening innings before Shakib was trapped leg before sweeping a delivery off Herath.

Nasir Hossain fell, guilty to have been in an uncomfortable position, to a delivery banged short by Eranga after the Tigers were at 150 on the scoreboard.

The day had so far been for the Sri Lankan bowlers at Mirpur's Sher-e-Banlga National Stadium with Eranga hauling three wickets and Herath, Lakmal and Mathews claiming one each.

Tamim Iqbal, debutant Shamsur Rahman, Marshal Ayub and Mominul returned to the pavilion in what apparently was a match played under one-day cricket sentiments.

Tamim pulled the first delivery of the ninth over of Eranga straight to fine leg where Lakmal held on to the ball before juggling at the edge of the ropes.

Marhsall Ayub fell leg before to Mathews in the very next over. Shamsur Rahman, who was scoring quickly, fell to Eranga again at the eleventh over caught at gully.

Mominul Islam hurried onto a pull in a short delivery to Lakmal and ended up misqueing the ball to short square leg for a splendid catch from Vithanage.
