After almost two and a half years, opening batsman Imrul Kayes is back in the Test squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka and the left hander said he was overjoyed at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium yesterday.
“I am as happy as I was after being selected to play for Bangladesh for the first time. It feels great when you make a comeback, I hope to repay the faith the selectors have shown in me,” said Imrul.
The left hander played his last Test against West Indies in October 2011. Though in the squad, he will face competition from Shamsur Rahman for a place in the playing eleven, but Imrul insisted he was not thinking in such terms, “I don’t think of him as my rival as we all are playing for Bangladesh and whoever gets the opportunity will try to give his best, which eventually brings positive result for the team.”
The 26-year old, who has played sixteen Tests for Bangladesh, said he has been working on his technique in consultation with former cricketer and divisional manager of the BCB game development Nazmul Abedeen Fahim since being dropped from the national team. “I have worked with Fahim, sir after I was left out from the Bangladesh team. We worked on my technique, it’s helped a lot,” said Imrul.
The national team’s practice sessions begin today.
