ULAB Fair Play Cup begins today

The 7th ULAB Fair Play Cup Inter-Private University Cricket Tournament, hosted by the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), will get underway at the ULAB ground in Mohammadpur today. ULAB will take on State University of Bangladesh (SUB) in the inaugural match of the Twenty20 tournament at 11am.

A total of 12 private universities, split into four groups, are taking part in the 15-day meet. Apart from ULAB the other participating teams are defending champions North South University, BRAC University, East West University, Northern University Bangladesh, United International University, State University of Bangladesh, Manarat International University, Independent University Bangladesh, University of Asia pacific, Southeast University and Eastern University.

The details of the tournament, which has been successfully organised every year since 2006, were revealed through a press conference at the ULAB premises yesterday. The champions of the tournament will get Tk40000 while the runners-up will receive Tk25000 as prize money.

ULAB Board of Trustee member and a director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Kazi Inam Ahmed, Prof. Imran Rahman, Vice Chancellor, ULAB, Lt. Col. Foyzul Islam (Retd.), Registrar, ULAB, and Taufiq Aziz, manager, External Affairs and Advisor, ULAB Field Sports Club were present on the occasion.

Inam, during the press briefing, explained why sport is important and how it increases the bonding among the youth society. “As we have our own tournament-standard playground, our main purpose is to create opportunity for other university students to play here and establish good relations among private universities. This time the tournament is big with 12 teams participating. We hope everyone have fun and enjoy the tournament,” he said.
