Marshal Ayub strikes hundred

After struggling in the first day of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), Marshal Ayub’s unbeaten century and Mahmudullah’s seven wickets helped Walton Central Zone to take a lead of 253 runs against Prime Bank South Zone at the BKSP-3 ground, while Islami Bank East Zone left arm spinner Nabil Samad’s six-wicket haul was the highlight performance against BCB North Zone yesterday.

Mahmudullah, who took five wickets on the first day, claimed two more for Central Zone as the off spinner took seven wickets for 94 runs to bowl out South Zone for 230 early in the second day.

After scoring only one in the first innings, Marshal Ayub smashed a magnificent century, which featured some beautiful drives and included14 fours and two sixes. Marshal remained unbeaten on 122 as the second day came to a close.

“It was not an easy track to bat on the first day but as the day progressed, the ball was coming on to the bat and I played according to the merit of the ball and luckily, I got the hundred which made me feel good,” said Marshal.

The right hander made his Test debut last year against New Zealand and despite not being able to make a big score, his elegant style impressed on-lookers. His recent success will do much for staking a spot in the national side for the upcoming Sri Lanka series, which starts later this month.

“Scoring a hundred is always something very special and it was a very crucial one for me as I wanted to score some big runs before the Sri Lanka series,” said the star.

Meanwhile, after North Zone’s Taijul Islam seven wickets on the first day, East Zone left arm spinner Nabil Samad took six wickets on the second day to bundle South Zone out for248. At the end of the second day, North Zone were at 79/3 – still 101 runs behind.
