Mohammedan Sporting Club and Prime Bank CC reached the top of the table winning their respective third round matches in the Amber Victory Day Twenty20 at Sylhet Divisional Stadium yesterday. Both team earned four points each from three matches while Abahani and UCB-BCB XI posted two points each.
Prime Bank CC v Abahani Ltd
Riding on Sabbir Rahman's second unbeaten half-century of the tournament, Prime Bank picked up a four-wicket victory against Abahani Limited.
Batting first, Abahani skipper Mushfiqur Rahim’s 50 off 33 and Soumya Sarkar’s 31 off 27 aided the side to post 171 in 20 overs losing seven wickets. It was the second fifty for Mushfiq in the tournament which includes one boundary and four over boundaries.
Prime Bank pacer Rubel Hossain secured three wickets in four overs conceding 17 runs while Taijul Islam bagged two.
In reply, Sabbir’s unbeaten 84 runs steered Prime Bank to victory in 19.3 overs and four wickets to spare. Sabbir hammered six fours and four sixes in his 50-ball innings. Sohag Gazi was unbeaten on the other end at 14 off 6.
Mohammedan SC v UCB-BCB XI
Unbeaten fifty by Mominul Haque saw Mohammedan pick their second win of the tournament defeating UCB BCB XI by seven wickets in the second game of the day.
UCB BCB went to bat first after winning the toss. The start for the side was never smooth losing opening batsman Imrul Kayes on a golden duck. Other opener Tamim Iqbal and number three Rony Talukder settled the boat posting 71 runs partnership. However the other batsmen in line failed to capitalize on the partnership and saw the innings end with 129 on the board in 20 overs with one wicket to spare.
Tamim faced 38 balls to score 34 with a boundary and as many over boundary. Rony before was pinned by Alauddin Babu in front of the stump posting 43 off 32 to the board hitting nine fours.
Dewan Sabbir picked four wickets for Mohammedan while Alauddin Babu secured two.
Later, Mohammedan chased the target in 17.1 overs losing only three wickets. Mominul with his 28-ball 50 runs drove the side to victory. The young talent struck seven fours and a six. Taiabur Parvez was unbeaten on the other end at 30 off 25.
Enamul Haque Jr picked two wickets while Naeem Islam bagged one for UCB BCB XI.
