West Indies Under-19 thrash hosts

The visiting West Indies under-19 side got off to a flying start by winning the sole warm-up 50-over game against hosts Bangladesh U-19 by a 114 runs at Chittagong’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) yesterday.

Riding on opening batsmen Shimron Hetmyre and Jeremy Solozano’s 105 run partnership the young Windies side posted 263/5 in their 50 overs. Hetmyre scored 56 off 75 balls while Solazano made a 109-ball 72 before top order batsman Tristann Coleman made 42 and Brandon King made 51.

Bangladesh left-arm spinner Rahatul Ferdous took two wickets for 61 runs from his 10 overs.

In reply, Bangladesh U-19 lost three wickets with only 21 runs on the board. Though wicket-keeper batsman Prosenjit Dash stroked 73off 82 balls, the side failed to recover from the early damage and were bowled out in 38.2 overs for 149.

West Indies right-arm spinner Ramaal Lewis bagged three wickets while Jerome Jones took two.

The defeat will be a wakeup call for the young Tigers who had expected apositive result against the visitors after beating them 4-3 in the Caribbean earlier in the year.  The first match of the seven-game youth ODIseries will take place onDecember 6 at the ZACS.
