Former chief selector and the new chairman of Cricket Operations of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Akram Khan announced yesterday that he is always ready to take up a challenge and his main goal will be to ensure consistency in the national cricket team’s performance at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
“My target will be to ensure consistent performance of the national team and for that, I will do whatever it takes to make the cricketers comfortable,” said Akram.
The new chairman also said that the Cricket Operations Committee is a very important department and to improve, everyone should contribute. “I have said earlier that I am ready to take up the challenge and the cricket operations is a very important one. If we the cricket operations, game development and tournament committee can work together we will surely do better,” said Akram.
Akram, who was the chief selector for six years before being elected a director of the board, informed that his experience as a chief selector will help him in future, “I have asked for a position in game development of operations. As I got the cricket operations, it will help me to work as I have worked as chief selector earlier and I am happy that I got the suitable post of mine.”
The former captain of Bangladesh is looking to work on some issues that had been neglected earlier and said that he will try to fix these in future, while also planning to form a backup for the “A” team.
Another matter on Akram’s plate is working on the Future Tour program (FTP), which he thinks Bangladesh receives less benefit from than other countries. “Before the FTP is published, ICC sends a primary list to all the countries. New Zealand bargained and got more Tests last year and I was shocked to see Bangladesh did not bargain, which they should have done. I will try to work on these issues also in future,” said Akram.
The new chairman is also hopeful about the age level team’s tour to neighboring countries, particularly India. He added that he would also try to maintain good relations with Pakistan and Sri Lanka with an eye to exchange tours in future.
Akram is also looking to tour either Australia or New Zealand after the T20 World Championship and hopes that everyone will contribute to improve Bangladesh cricket.
