Dhaka Tribune emerged as the champions of the Islami Bank Corporate Cricket, beating Computer Source by two wickets in the final at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium on Sunday.
Opting to bat first, Computer Source posted 93/6 in the stipulated eight overs, a total the Dhaka Tribune chased with an over to spare. Mintu, the skipper of Computer Source top scored with 52, while Fayez made 26. Atik Shafi of Dhaka Tribune grabbed three wickets for 12 runs. Later, the Tribune’s captain Rohan set the platform for his team’s chase with a blazing knock of 22, Tarek continued the onslaught with 23 and Shafi added 15 run. Atik Shafi of Dhaka Tribune was adjudged man of the match, while Arman Haidar of Acme grabbed the award of man of the tournament.
A.H.M. Mustafa Kamal, the ICC vice president was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony. Mustafa Anwar, vice chairman of Islami Bank was the special guest.
Earlier an outstanding all-round performance from Murad earned Dhaka Tribune a crucial 38-run victory over Rangs in the first semi-final of the evening.
Rangs opted to field first after winning the toss and took five vital top and middle order wickets to reduce the Tribune to 43/5 after 4.1 overs. Tareq rescued the side as he slammed a blistering half-century and remained unbeaten on 65 runs from 17 deliveries, with nine 6s and two 4s. Jamal’s 13 and Moon’s unbeaten 14 helped Tribune set a decent 138-run target for Rangs.
In reply, Rangs could only manage to score 99/6 and Tareq also starred with the ball, picking up three wickets for25 runs. Tareq was adjudged the player of the match.
In the quarter-final match, Tribune crushed Trust Bank by seven wickets. Batting first, Trust Bank scored 123/6 riding on Habib’s unbeaten knock of 60. Tribune openers Rohan and Mazhar both hit 53 each as they strolled to victory in only 6.1 overs.
