Tigers rewarded for stand-out performances

The youth and sports minister Ahad Ali Sarkar handed over monetary awards to the members of the Bangladesh national cricket team yesterday. The ministry earlier declared the awards for their excellent performance against West Indies, Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the last one year.

In November last year, the Tigers registered a 3-2 victory in the five-match ODI series against West Indies for which they receive Tk100,000 each. National speedster Abul Hasan was awarded Tk200,000 for his memorable Test century while opening batsman Anamul Haque also received the same amount for a century.

Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, Nasir Hossain and suspended cricketer Mohammad Ashraful were awarded for their individual performances against Sri Lanka in the Galle Test earlier this year. Mushfiqur received Tk400,000 for becoming the first Bangladeshi to score a double century while Ashraful was rewarded Tk300,000 for his 190 in the same Test. Another centurion in the match Nasir received Tk200,000.

Sohag Gazi was awarded with Tk300,000 for becoming the first cricketer in the history to slam a century and bag six wickets including a hat-trick in a Test against New Zealand recently. Meanwhile, Mominul Haque received Tk200,000 for registering centuries in both the Tests against the Kiwis.

Youth and sports secretary Noor Mohammad headed the ceremony while Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan and other dignitaries of National Sports Council and the cricket board were also present.
