Shane Deitz to coach women’s team

Former South Australian cricketer Shane Deitz joined the Bangladesh national women’s team as the head-coach, replacing Sri Lankan Oshadi Weerasinghe.

The 38-year old wicket-keeper batsman arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday and will join the women’s national camp tomorrow.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board women’s wing executive Jannatul Ferdous told the Dhaka Tribune that the management is yet to lock down the tenure. It was also informed that the Australian coach’s primary target will be the ICC World Women’s Twenty20, scheduled to take place in March in Bangladesh.

All the games of the women’s competition will be played at Sylhet Divisional Stadium.

Also known as “Cleensheets”, Shane is a level three qualified coach who moved to New Zealand in 2008 to take up a position as a development coach with Cricket Wellington. He later became the assistant coach of the Wellington Firebirds under former Bangladesh national coach Jamie Siddons.

A part-time gloveman who sometimes played as a specialist batsman, Deitz, 38, has scored 3,753 first-class runs and averaged 30.76 and was one of South Australia's best in 2006-07.
