Gazi Tank maintains solo lead

Gazi Tank Cricketers registered a three-wicket win over Prime Bank CC to maintain their top spot in the Dhaka Premier League at Bogra’s Shaheed Chandu Stadium yesterday.

Gazi’s decision to bowl first paid them big dividend as Prime, who made 363 in their last match against Kalabagan CA, were restricted to 191-8. It was Taibur Parvez’s 63 that helped Prime reach the respectable total as they were at one point reeling at 75 for five. Ravi Bopara and Mahmudul Hasan also scored 26 runs each. Gazi’s foreign recruit Jacob Oram was successful with the ball as he picked up three wickets conceding 28 runs while spinner Arafat Sunny bagged two wickets.

In reply, Ashar Zaidi’s 68 and Rakibul Hasan’s 55 led Gazi Tank to the victory in 48 overs losing seven wickets. 

Gazi Tank is leading the league with 12 points from eight games. Prime Doleshwar and Mohammedan Sporting Club are on 10 points from eight games.

In the other game of the day, defending champions Victoria Sporting Club defeated Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by six runs at Rajshahi’s Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium. Victoria batted first to score 251 all out in 46 overs. Jubayer Ahmed helped Victoria post the competitive score with an unbeaten 89 while wicketkeeper-batsman Lasith Abeyratne added 59 to the tally. Gulbadin Naib and Nahidul Islam picked up two wickets each for Sheikh Jamal.

In reply, Sheikh Jamal were all out for 245 to lose the game by the narrow margin. The side’s Zimbabwean recruit Elton Chigumbura topped the innings scoring 91 off 94 balls while opening batsman Junaid Siddique scored 48 runs. Victoria’s pacer Robiul Islam claimed four wickets to.

On the other hand, the matches scheduled for November were temporarily suspended due to unavoidable reasons by the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis yesterday. The CCDM in the press release mentioned of announcing a revised itinerary for the games in due course.
