An all-round performance from Sabbir Rumman led Prime Doleshwar to a convincing 7 wicket win over Brothers Union at Bogra, while bottom of the table Khelaghar SKS suffered another narrow defeat as Mohammedan SC came away as winners by 10 runs at BKSP-3 in yesterday’s Dhaka Premier League matches.
The wicket at Shaheed Chandu Stadium has favoured batsmen this season and this continued to be the case as Doleshwar strolled to their target of 252, wining with nine overs to spare.
Imtiaz Hossain (54) and Mehrab Hossain Jr. (36) gave Brothers a good start as they scored 95 for the first wicket after being put in to bat. Nafees Iqbal at number three scored 58 while Sri Lankan Thilan Samaraweera and Alok Kapali made 42 and 32 runs respectively to take the orange outfits well past 200. Sabbir, after claiming both Nafees and Alok, later returned to remove Nazmus Sadat and Sohrawardi Shuvo and finished with figures of 4/36, in addition to having a hand in Gareth Cross’ run-out. Brothers made 251-9 from their 50 overs.
In reply, Doleshwar lost Joshua Cobb early but Mehedi Maruf’s 43-ball 54, and Rony Talukder’s run-a-ball 57 kept the chase on. Later Middlesex player Dawid Malan and Sabbir added 105 runs for the fourth wicket to take Doleshwar to their fifth win of the competition.
The hard-hitting left hander Malan struck 83 from 90 balls while Sabbir made 51 from 54 balls.
Meanwhile at BKSP opener Rajin Saleh’s 60 was neutralised by three run-outs as Mohammedan were reduced to 106/5. However late contributions from Samiullah Shinwari (39), Delwar Hossain (33) and Muktar Ali (24) helped Mohammedan recover to finish at 205/8.
Most of Khelaghar’s batsmen got good starts, but were unable to push on to a big score. Daniel Housego made 53, Niaz Morshed 21, Faisal Hossain 20, Nizamuddin Ripon 30, Mahmudul Islam 24 and Masum Khan 27 as Khelaghar were bowled out for 195 in the last over.
Delwar Hossain claimed four wickets and Samiullah Shinwari three for the bowling side.
