West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves created history on Monday when he became the first bowler in Test cricket since records were freely available to register five consecutive wicket maidens.
Greaves completed the feat with a game-changing spell either side of lunch on an enthralling third day at the first ICC World Test Championship Test between the West Indies and Pakistan in Trinidad when he tore through the visitors' batting order.
It was Greaves' first five-wicket haul in Test cricket and bettered the four consecutive wicket maidens that former England fast bowler Stuart Broad managed in a Test against South Africa at Johannesburg in January 2016.
Greaves admitted he kept it simple during his spell, following the advice from West Indies skipper Roston Chase to keep the ball in good areas and reap the rewards.
"When I came on captain Roston Chase just said 'continue to be disciplined in what you are doing' and to see if I can get some wickets for the team," Greaves said.
"The ball nipped around and I got some reward. Anytime I get the ball in hand the team looks to me to be that solid player for them (and) try to dig us out of situations.
"To get five wickets for the first time in Test cricket, I'm really happy, but there's still a lot of work to do in the game."
It had looked like Pakistan were on their way to opening up a handy lead in the first innings when they were well placed at 244/3 with Shan Masood having just brought up his century, but Greaves removed the former skipper to commence the collapse.
Greaves then dismissed Aamer Jamal, Ali Usman and Mohammad Rizwan in consecutive overs without conceding a run as Pakistan limped to lunch at 267/8 and in serious trouble in reply to the West Indies' first innings total of 311.
Greaves then had Mohammad Abbas caught behind in his first over after lunch to complete five consecutive wicket maidens, with Pakistan all out for 282 following an inspired spell of seam bowling from the experienced right-armer.
Pakistan were able to fight back prior to stumps as they reduced the hosts to 126/7 with an overall lead of 155 as Shamar Joseph (22*) and Kemar Roach (5*) remain at the crease ahead of the fourth day.
