Tamim out at the nervous ninety

Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh’s left-handed opener, nearly missed out on scoring 100-runs yet again as he was caught in the gully after scoring 95-runs to his name in the first innings of the second test match between New Zealand and Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, in the capital.

This was the fifth occasion at which he had been deprived of a test century. He was caught with just five-runs remaining to reach the landmark by Williamson at gully, who snaffled the ball diving wonderfully to his right when Tamim tried to ramp a ball bowled by Wagner through the slips.

He raised hopes for many after an unconvincing performance at the first test with a duck during the first innings and a 46 during the second.

However, Tamim seemed keen on making boundaries in the second test and hurriedly pushed up the score before he was out in the 52nd over, as luck rarely favours him while reaching milestones.

He made 95 from 153 balls at a strike rate of 62.09. He reached his half-century in the 26th over hitting nine boundaries and facing 76 balls. He smashed a total of seventeen boundaries in his innings.

Tamim had his test debut with New Zealand at Dunedin in January 2008. He scored consecutive half centuries, 53 and 84, in the two innings respectively.
