Nahid claims ICC Player of the Month after New Zealand heroics

Bangladesh pace sensation Nahid Rana has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month following his match-winning performances in the recent home series against New Zealand.

The 22-year-old fast bowler played a decisive role in Bangladesh’s 2-1 series triumph over the New Zealand national cricket team, earning the Player of the Series award for his consistency and impact with the ball.

Nahid picked up eight wickets in three matches at an impressive economy rate of 4.46, underlining both his attacking threat and control. His most memorable spell came in the second match at Mirpur, where he produced a devastating 5-32 to power Bangladesh to a 55-run victory and level the series. He also chipped in with two crucial wickets in the series decider in Chattogram, helping seal a landmark win for the hosts.

With this recognition from the International Cricket Council (ICC), Nahid becomes the fourth Bangladesh male cricketer to receive the monthly honour and the fifth player overall from the country to achieve the feat.

Previously, Shakib Al Hasan won the award twice, in July 2021 and March 2023. Mushfiqur Rahim claimed it in May 2021, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz received the accolade in April 2025. Nahida Akter remains the only Bangladesh women’s cricketer to have won the award, doing so in May 2023.

Nahid edged Oman’s Jatinder Singh and Ajay Kumar to secure the men’s prize.

Reacting to the achievement, Nahid said it was a special feeling to be recognised after performing against a top-tier side like New Zealand. He added that delivering on home soil made the series victory even more memorable and thanked his teammates for their unwavering support.

Meanwhile, South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt was named ICC Women’s Player of the Month after standout performances in white-ball series against New Zealand and India, marking her third monthly award in seven months.
