Defending Dhaka Premier League (DPL) champions Victoria Sporting Club yesterday asked for their match against Kalabagan Cricket Academy to be replayed. The match was abandoned due to rain at the BKSP ground on September 10 and the ground was not fit for play on the reserve day as well – thus ensuring that the two teams split the two points on offer.
“The BKSP 2 ground was unable to hold a match and we informed Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) to change the venue, but the CCDM changed the scheduled match of a club (indicating Abahani) from BKSP to Fatullah,” said Nisar Uddin Ahmed the secretary of Victoria.
The Motijheel based club were unhappy and feltthat the CCDM was favouring certain sides. The club sent a letter to the CCDM asking for a replay of the match against Kalabagan, a copy of which was also forwarded to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president.
Nisar cited the Victoria-Abahani match last season which was replayed to support his club’s current request.“We have played a replay match last season against Abahani, which we played only for the sake of cricket, and this time we asked for a replay match where the match was abandoned without a single ball being bowled. Everything does not happen according to the by-laws,” said Nisar.
He added that if the club did not receive a reply to their request, the club would meet to discuss further options. Meanwhile, the chairman of the CCDM said that he would meet with Victoria’s officials about the matter and that Victoria should accept the situation for the sake of the cricket.
Kalabagan for their part, had no comment on the issue and seemed content with the result.
Victoria will play their second match on September 15 against Khelaghar SKS for which their line-up will be bolstered by the arrival of Indian recruits all-rounder RahatElahi and middle order batsman AbhishekYadav.
