Mahmudullah to lead Gazi Tank

Tigers’ vice-captain Mahmudullah was named captain of Gazi Tank Cricketers for the Dhaka Premier League starting tomorrow. The announcement came from the club’s chairman Mohammad Lutfur Rahman during a programme at BSEC Bhaban yesterday. National discarded Imrul Kayes was named as Mahmudullah’s deputy.

Gazi Tank comprises of mostly young players which made the skipper hopeful of putting up a championship fight. Their foreign recruits New Zealand’s Scott Styris and Sri Lankan all-rounder Kaushalya Weeraratne will also strengthen their side as they are expected to join the squad before tomorrow’s opening match against Khelaghor Samaj Kallyan Samity at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra.

“We have a blend of young and experienced players who are capable of giving a championship fight. However, it all depends on how we perform on a given day. Hopefully with the addition of foreign cricketers our team will have a nice and positive balance,” said Mahmudullah.

Coach Sarwar Imran considers Gazi Tank as one of the top teams this year. “After the new players by choice transfer, there are not too many differences between the teams. Still we have some good, quality cricketers whom we really wanted in our side. I believe we are capable of winning the title,” said Imran.
