Tigresses start Windies T20 series with big loss

Bangladesh women's team suffered an eight-wicket defeat to the West Indies in the three-match Twenty20 international series opener at Basseterre in Saint Kitts Monday.

Electing to bat first, Bangladesh posted 144/3 with skipper Nigar Sultana Joty leading the charge with a 40-ball 53 not out.

She hit five fours and two sixes in her knock.

Sharmin Akter Supta made 37 while opener Sobhana Mostary added 22.

But the total proved to be insufficient against a power-packed batting line-up of the Windies, who gunned down the target with incredible ease.

They lost just two wickets to overhaul the target with 19 balls to spare.

Skipper Hayley Matthews made an unbeaten 60 off 54, sending the ball across the ropes seven times.

Deandra Dotting caused the most havoc, smashing a 22-ball 51 not out, an innings laced with seven sixes.

Bangladesh earlier lost the three-match One Day International series 2-1 and missed out on direct qualification to the Cricket World Cup.
