The Bangladesh Cricket Board Monday announced the squad for the upcoming three One Day Internationals against hosts West Indies where Shakib al Hasan has not been included.
After completing his maiden captaincy assignment in the Test series, all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz will now lead the Bangladesh side in ODIs for the first time in the absence of regular skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto who is still recovering from a groin injury, a press release from BCB said.
Batsman Towhid Hridoy, a constant feature in the Bangladesh middle-order in white-ball cricket, has also been declared unavailable by the BCB’s medical team as he is struggling with groin issues.
BCB sports physician Monzur Hossain Chowdhury said: “Hridoy had complained of pain in his right groin region and subsequent investigations have confirmed the presence of a medical condition. He has been advised to rest and we will reassess him in two weeks to determine his readiness to play.”
Meanwhile, left-hander Afif Hossain Dhrubo has received a call-up to the ODI squad after a gap of one year.
His previous ODI appearance for Bangladesh came in December 2023.
Fellow left-hander Zakir Hasan, who was in the team in last month’s ODI series against Afghanistan in the United Arab Emirates, has been dropped.
Fast bowler Nahid Rana has kept his place in the squad after an impressive ODI debut against Afghanistan.
All the matches will be held in St Kitts.
The first ODI is scheduled to be held Sunday.
